What is Hydro Jetting? Benefits and Uses

Clogged sewer lines pretty much happen to every building that has plumbing. As sinks, showers, drains, and toilets get used, materials build up, especially if tree roots have breached the pipes. These buildups cause backups if they are not remedied in time, and can damage floors, walls, ceilings, and more. If a plunger can’t solve the problem, a professional should be called in to clear out the lines. Hydro jetting is a common method to clear the pipes of household debris and any infiltrating roots. It is also used as a preventative measure, recommended every two years to keep pipes free of debris and flowing.

What is Hydro Jetting?

Hydro jetting involves the use of high-pressure water to pressure wash the inside of the line, clearing out debris and re-opening flow. The process to hydrojet a sewer line begins with a high-pressure hose with a specialized nozzle. Nozzles are sized for the size of the pipe and blockage, ranging from 1.5 inches to 8 inches in diameter. Connected to a machine that pressurizes the water, the apparatus pushes water at a force of 60,000 psi to completely clear the drain. The process is usually performed through a clean-out, an opening on the outside of your home or building that professionals use to easily access pipes.

Hydro Jetting

Hydro jetting is different from other drain clearing methods, such as snaking a clog because it clears the entire pipe, rather than pushing a hole through blockage.

Once the nozzle has been moved through the line, a second video inspection is performed to ensure complete cleanout and fully functioning pipes.

What Can Hydro Jetting Help With?

Hydro jetting is a great tool for proactively maintaining your building’s lines and servicing clogged ones. We recommend service every two years for preventative measures, and when needed.
Hydro jetting offers a true pipe cleanout, as opposed to augers and snakes that only clear blockages. The accumulation of grease, detergents, dirt, minerals, and other components that create sludge are the culprits of sewer clogs, slowing down liquids and eventually backing up the flow of waste. Pressure washing the entire interior of the pipe removes these components and prevents continued buildup.
Because hydro jetting standard practice requires video inspection prior to moving forward, you can be made aware of any serious pipe breaches before major problems occur.
Because hydro jetting works through your system’s cleanouts, there is no need to dig up your yard, open up a pipe, and replace a clogged section. The high pressure water stream slowly moves through the entire pipe clearing debris from every angle until the pipe is clean and clear.
